After the Glacier

What does a melting glacier sound like? What associations did the sight of these ice giants evoke in artists hundreds of years ago, and how do we view them today in times of climate crisis? What comes after the ice? What desires do the exposed landscapes awaken? An evening at the Liechtenstein Art School, listening to the sounds of ice and learning more about glaciers as a mirror of society.

Michael Gams has been working in communications for CIPRA International in Liechtenstein since 2018. He conceived the special issue ‘After the Glacier’, published on the occasion of the International Year of Glacier Conservation 2025. The trained radio journalist and initiator of the CIPRA podcast is convinced that voices and sounds are a particularly effective way of conveying content and emotions.

The lecture is linked to ‘Glacier Day’ and the Schmelzen (Melting) programme at the Liechtenstein Art School.
