Successful completion of the ERASMUS+ project “Choir@Home”

Vaduz – Singing brings people together – even online. The ERASMUS+ research project “Choir@Home” by the University of Liechtenstein, implemented in collaboration with the Mozarteum University Salzburg and Anhalt University of Applied Sciences, shows how singing together in virtual spaces can be reimagined and successfully organized.

The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the importance of digital alternatives for choirs and cultural offerings. While some ensembles ventured into the digital realm, others faced technical or social challenges. This is where Choir@Home came in: the project developed educational concepts, digital tools, and social frameworks to enable effective online rehearsals.

An international online laboratory choir tested these approaches in over 30 rehearsals and five virtual performances. Continuous feedback from participants was directly incorporated into further development. In addition, the results were disseminated via social media, media reports, events, and scientific publications. Practical materials for individual online choir projects were also created.

The project exceeded many of its goals: it created a sound knowledge base on suitable digital tools, developed practical guidelines for choir directors, and proved that singing together can also be lively, creative, and socially connecting in the digital space.

Choir@Home does not see digital choir singing as a substitute, but as a valuable extension of musical togetherness—and opens up new opportunities for participation and inclusion.
